Kiwanis One Day - "Food for Kidz” Project: Saturday April 07, 2018. What a success, with
520 volunteers we packaged 174,648 mealsThe annual Minnesota-Dakotas Kiwanis District Southern
Sub-Division 7
participated in the Kiwanis One Day of Service “Food for Kidz”
Project
in Stewartville, Minnesota.
Over 185 Kiwanians participated.
It was hard to determine exactly how many from the various clubs were there as some just registered as Sunrisers or Kiwanis down.
Volunteers included the following groups:
All 8 Kiwanis clubs (Div 7 SE) were represented as were:
Key Clubs -Lake City, Stewartville, John Marshall, Century, Mayo, and Kingsland;
Builders Clubs - Stewartville and Spring Valley;
Circle K Club - Winona State;
Aktion Club - Lake City,
and even 1 from the Austin MN Early Riser Kiwanis Club
The Army volunteers were a HUGE help again as were the men from Teen Challenge.
We had volunteers from Girl and Boy Scouts, 4-H, churches, schools, businesses and many individuals and families – all ages and sizes!
This puts the Kiwanis Stewartville club event has now packed a total of 1,678,172 meals with thousands of volunteers in 15 years.
Many thanks to the Kiwanis Club of Stewartville for leadership role of pulling everything together so our Southern Sub-Division 7 Kiwanis Clubs could lend their support for such an important project.
The Food for Kidz organization in Stewart, MN is currently distributing food to Texas, Puerto Rico, Haiti, Honduras, Sierra Leone, Afghanistan and Syria. We also packed Food for Kidz a pallet of oatmeal cinnamon breakfast and a pallet of rice and beans for Channel One Food Shelf in Rochester.This year we received $22,835.60 in donations which was
enough to pack 152,237 meals. All but 2 clubs made or exceeded the individual
club goal of $2,000 in donations.
The crew from Food for Kidz let us keep packing so the last shift had food to
pack for a little over an hour before cleanup began.
Thanks to all the Kiwanis family for this great effort to make our One Day of Service a success. Special thanks to the Spring Valley Kiwanis for the extra help in helping with the organization of the day including setup, cleanup and extra long shifts, and the Stewartville Club for the long hours they put into the day, any who worked extra shifts and those who stayed to help clean up. The day began at 8 a.m. and the mopping was done and doors locked at 4:45 p.m. Clubs please extend our thanks to your Key, Aktion, and Builders Clubs as well, and Winona please thank the WS Circle K. For questions contact Mary Brouillard at mkbrouill@aol.com . Remember this is a tax-deductible donation.
