Many thanks to the Kiwanis Club of Stewartville for leadership role of pulling everything together so our Southern Sub-Division 7 Kiwanis Clubs could lend their support for such an important project.
The Food for Kidz organization in Stewart, MN is currently distributing food to Mozambique, Uganda, Haiti, Honduras and other areas as needed. This year we took in $22,289.22 which was enough to pack 149,254 meals. Had we had more volunteers the second and third shifts we could have accomplished this. All money was sent with FFK
– there were many years that we did not come even close to paying for the ingredients we used. Since this has become a Kiwanis One Day of Service event we have done much better paying for all the
ingredients we use. Going forward, meals will cost $0.18 which is what they are telling us the cost of meals is for new groups that are packing. We will check on the current cost of meals as we begin
next year’s planning to be sure we are paying the going rate for meals.
Thanks to all the Kiwanis family for this great effort to make our One Day of Service a success. Special thanks to the Spring Valley Kiwanis for the extra help in helping with the organization of the day including setup, food, cleanup and extra long shifts, the Stewartville Club for the long hours they put in to the day, any who worked extra shifts and those who stayed to help clean up. (Thanks Jack Zierdt for mopping that huge floor with another volunteer!) Clubs please extend our thanks to your Key, and Builders Clubs as well and Winona please thank the WS Circle K.
